Room #4254
Day 69
Brandon's dad had triple bypass surgery yesterday morning. Today, we went to go visit him in the hospital. It hurt me to see him in so much pain. What amazes me even more was to see Elaine (Brandon's mom) keep her composure while taking care of him.
As a daughter, you've always grew up with your parents taking care of you. Your dad was the super hero...he was there to change your diapers, fight off the monsters in your closet, bandaging up your wounds...just making sure you're taken are of. Your dad was invincible...nothing could possibly take him down. But as time goes on...the roles begin to reverse. We end up taking care of our parents who are sick. I can't imagine what it was like for both Brandon and Angela to see their dad is so much pain. Eddie barely had enough energy to hold himself up. It was struggle for him to even take deep breaths. But I witnessed the pain they (Brandon and Angela) held inside as watched their dad suffering. They were both very attentive: they helped give him more water, ice chips, and helped him from a sitting position to laying down. These daily activities that are so easy to us, were like a workload for Eddie.
This was a big eye opener for me. To see the love and compassion that Brandon and Angela had for their dad made me reevaluate my love for my dad. Would it have to come down to my dad on his death bed for me to show how much I love and care for my dad? I'm daddy's little girl...just always been a spoiled little brat. I've treated my dad with no respect because I knew I could get away with it. I want to start taking my dad out on dinner dates...spend more time with him before it's too late.
No son or daughter wants to ever see their parents suffering or in pain. Room 4254, a room number I hope to never see again. Especially not with my dad.
Please continue to pray for Eddie's recovery.
